The Superhero's Guide to Villain Nurseries

Theo Salazar, superhero, deals with the trauma of growing up a government experiment like any sane adult: by binging telenovelas and keeping his lonely civilian identity a paranoid secret. That is, until he finds five-year-old Mon cowering in the aftermath of (yet another) alien invasion.

Mon has no-one and nowhere else to go, so civilian Theo takes him in. Theo has no idea how to be a parent, however, and Mon is no ordinary kid. A confrontation with a necromantic supervillain reveals that Mon is the alien weapon both the government and the heroes are desperate to find, and Theo will be damned before he lets anyone get their hands on his kid. To his surprise, the necromancer refuses to separate Mon from Theo. A parent himself, he instead invites Mon to a supervillain nursery, and Theo accepts. This is his best chance to keep Mon safe and find out where Mon came from—as long as the villains don’t find out Theo is a hero.

Theo’s hero coworkers don’t know he has a son, and they have no idea that son is the very weapon they’ve been tasked to hunt down. If Theo tells them, he could lose Mon to the very monsters who created him, a risk he isn’t willing to take. But the closer they get to the truth, the more Theo’s lies spiral, and Mon’s unstable powers keep growing. Theo must decide which identity is most important before it’s too late: being a hero, or saving his son.
